New BF4 multiplayer trailer shows new maps and features

DICE and EA have released a brand new, massive Battlefield 4 multiplayer trailer. The 3-minute trailer goes into detail into pretty much everything multiplayer-related. It also shows a bunch of new maps, including close quarter maps and large scale, open maps. The new BF4 trailer also shows the new Levolution feature, and even shows the map that can be flooded.

It also gives a sneak peek on other features, such as the new Battlelog, customization options, and the new and improved destruction. All in all, this is the best Battlefield 4 trailer we’ve seen so far — it really makes us excited about the game. Only six more weeks to go until release.

Razer unveils Battlefield 4 branded PC gear

Razer, makers of high-end PC and console peripherals and accessories, have revealed their official Battlefield 4 branded gear. Back in 2011, they had a similar lineup of BF3 gear, but they’ve introduced some new stuff over the past two years, and it’s been added to the Battlefield 4 mix.

The new gear includes the Razer BlackWidow gaming keyboard, the Taipan gaming mouse, BlackShark gaming headset, Destructor 2 mouse pad, a Battlefield 4 branded messenger bag, and an iPhone case as well.

The most interesting items on the list appears to be the Taipan mouse, which features an 8200 DPI “dual sensor system”, which should provide some accurate and quick aiming.

The prices on the new Battlefield 4 branded product carry a little premium over the regular ones. The BlackWidow keyboard retails for $150, the Taipan mouse for $90, the headset for $150, mosuepad for $40, messenger bag for $80, and the iPhone case for $20.

You can check out the full lineup and read more about the products here.

A closer look at the new Battlefield 4 maps

5 A closer look at all the new maps featured in the latest multiplayer trailer. TweetSeptember 19th, 2013 IN News

The latest multiplayer trailer gave us a few good glimpses of the other Battlefield 4 maps and settings. Taking a closer look at the trailer revealed some of those maps in detail. In all, 8 different maps were showcased in the trailer (Battlefield 4 launches with 10 maps). The map settings range from urban, to desert, to jungle, and more.

Check out the new BF4 screenshots below and an analysis of the new maps. Click the images for a larger view.

Operation Locker is the snow covered Battlefield 4 map we saw during the Battlelog trailer a few weeks ago. It’s a linear map with snowy exteriors and also interiors that take place in a large cave / mine. It reminds us a lot of the Damavand Peak map from BF3. It also seems to have a cool “frost” effect added to the HUD.

Battlefield 4 open beta starts on October 1

EA has officially announced the launch date for the upcoming Battlefield 4 beta: it kicks off on October 1 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 (next gen system are excluded because they won’t be on the market at that time).
Those who have pre-ordered the game, or have BF3 Premium, will get earlier access to the beta, which EA calls “exclusive beta”, but didn’t clarify on what exactly the “exclusive” is. Back in 2011 for the BF3 beta, those who pre-ordered received a 48 hour early access.
EA also revealed that players will be able to unlock items in the Battlefield 4 beta which will be transferable to the final retail game, including any stats that beta players might have accumulated. Players can also chose against this, of course.
The beta will feature one multiplayer map (Siege of Shanghai), and one game mode (Conquest). It’s likely that we’ll get another map and game mode later in the beta, as it was the case with the BF3 beta back in 2011.
in just two weeks, we’ll finally be able to play the game we’ve been waiting for all year long. What are you looking forward to the most in the beta? Let us know!

EA Sued by Helicopter Maker for Depiction of Aircraft in Battlefield 3

EA and Textron have been in discussions since December 21st, but have not been able to come up with a resolution. EA claims they are protected by the First Amendment and a disclaimer stating depiction of real world weapons and vehicles is not an endorsement by the manufacturer.

Paracel Storm Multiplayer Map Reveal

Paracel Storm

Set in the China sea the Paracel Storm map is based around a small group of islands and features full on naval assaults.
Think Kharg island meets Wake Island, meets a bucket full of meth amphetamine, and the bucket is on fire, and there's a grenade in the bottom of the bucket... Oh and the bucket is on a boat....and the boat is in a storm and the boats on fire, and.... well you get the idea...

Paracel Storm is very sea orientated and unlike the fore-mentioned Kharg and Wake island maps of Battlefield 3 which mainly used boats as a method of transport for getting to the fight, Paracel is all about the naval battles.

Control the sea control the world, the British knew it, and if your team want to control the map you had better know it too!

Paracel Storm has large open water for firing long range salvos Bismark style, and tight inter-island water ways which we're sure will play host to some frantic James Bond-esque boat chases!

Its not all about the wet stuff, air vehicles will play an important role. Jets such as the F-35 and J-20 will be battling for air supremacy, while helicopter gunships provide ground support. They wont have it their own way though, the rock, paper scissors element is alive and well and both sides get some pretty hardcore AA guns for tearing up the birds of prey.

Dice are bringing in a new game mode which they show cased on Paracel. Obliteration Mode as its known will give each team 3 bases scattered over the map to defend. A bomb appears in the center of the map and the teams race to capture the bomb and use it to destroy the enemy's bases. First team to destroy all of their enemy's bases win. While some die hard Battlefield fans will scream "if its not conquest or rush, it's not battlefield" we can see this mode really taking off! Dice say Obliteration was based on capture the flag which is no bad thing, some of our most intense matches have been playing CTF on Riverside.

One of the things that bought most of us to Battlefield was the desruction. The idea that the map I started a round on was completly different to the map at the end of the round, blew my mind the first time I played. This was something that felt lacking in BF3, sure the destruction looked pretty but it never altered the game like it did in previous titles. Dice thinks it has addressed this with what it calls Levolution. As each game progresses Levuolution uses the powerful Frost Bite 3 engine to change the dynamics of the match. For example when players destroy key features a skyscraper might tumble, a city begins to flood or day changes to night. On a more basic level bringing down a wall might open a new path through a building while at the same time blocking the road it was next to.

In Paracel Storm Levolution will bring in a tropical storm and cause battleships to run aground, wind turbines will fall while an island paradise turns into to disaster zone that would have the Red Cross panicking.

How this will ultimately effect real world game play only time will tell, but the future looks bright, or more to the point, bright then stormy......

EA settles with weapons maker over Battlefield 3 vehicle names

Back in 2012, EA sued aircraft maker Bell over a disagreement on whether EA could use Bell’s aircraft and names in Battlefield 3. Bell is the maker of the Huey and the Viper, both which are playable in BF3. EA argued that it’s a first amendment right — a freedom of expression that video games enjoy just as movies do. Bell wanted EA to pay royalties, but EA argued that when Bells aircraft are used in movies, they don’t have to pay royalties, and neither should games.

Now EA and Bell have settled the lawsuit, but neither party have released any details on the settlement. We doubt this will have any effect on the vehicle and weapon names in the upcoming Battlefield 4, which will also feature the Huey and the Viper helicopters — made by Bell.

As we reported last year, EA and Bell’s parent company, Textron, were in licensing negotiations, which fell through. Afterwards, EA decided to use the real world names of the aircraft anyways, and filed a pre-emptive lawsuit against Textron. Textron wanted EA to stop using all of its aircraft in the game, which would have meant no Viper nor Huey. Since both helicopters are present in BF4, we assume that Bell and EA settled this without sacrificing the the authenticity of the game.

Operation Metro goes Minecraft

3 On July 31st, 2013 in News

Like it or not, Operation Metro is probably the most played Battlefield 3 map out there. Where else can you constantly spam grenades and rockets and rake in points like crazy? Yep, Operation Metro is filled with a particular kind of Battlefield 3 players, a grotesque crossing between Call of Duty and Battlefield. Someone loves Op. Metro so much they went and recreated it in Minecraft. Say what you want about the map, but the remake in Minecraft is pretty impressive. Be sure to check out the Caspian Border Minecraft remake as well.

New Nvidia driver fixes some Battlefield 3 issues

Nvidia is continuously working on improving performance with its graphics cards in Battlefield 3. The latest driver update includes a fix for an issue which has plagued some players for a while: the black edges that appear when MSAA 4X is enabled. The new Nvidia beta driver fixes that, and adds some general performance improvements as well.

The new driver is called 326.41 Beta, and its update, the 326.80, both feature the Battlefield 3 fix. Nvidia’s beta drivers have always been pretty stable, but if you’re not too keen on using beta drivers, you’ll have to wait for a little bit longer until Nvidia finalizes the software.

Battlelog plagued by login issues

Over the past week, Battlelog has been plagued by various login issues. It’s unknown what the cause is, but according to EA, the issue should be resolved for most players. Battlelog is a key element for PC players, as they need to login in order to play the game, browse for servers, and more.

Battlelog recently got overhauled with a new design, and will reportedly get another redesign just in time for BF4 this Fall. The service is also available on iPhones and iPads, and recently, DICE released an Android app as well.

Funny video shows the state of Battlefield 3 after BF4 is released

0On September 14th, 2013 in Videos

What will happen to Battlefield 3 after BF4 is released? Surely there will still be a ton of players, having all the fun in the world? A new video pokes fun at the two games, predicting a ghost land in BF3 after the release of its successor, Battlefield 4.

Despite the bleak and fun prediction in the video, DICE has promised that they will keep supporting BF3 after the release of Battlefield 4. There are still millions of BF3 gamers out there, and it’s unlikely they’ll all upgrade to BF4 at once.

Considering that both Bad Company 2 and older Battlefield games are still played, it will be a long, long time before BF3 runs out of players. Especially when you consider that there isn’t much of a visual difference between the two games — many consider BF4 to actually be BF 3.5.
